hot damn my kind of contest for sure…..i love to collect disc that are different,full color,one time stamps and just wicked cool stamps these hang on my wall for display.
My current collection is flippin great I have series collector discs from the past 2 Worlds, A complete Steady Ed set, and tournament discs that i have participated in. the only thing more valuable to me that my Disc Golf Disc Collection is my Harley Collection.
What motivates me to collect discs is the different stamps or personally signed disc is the value to me plus i just like to collect REALLY COOL DISCS that i will never throw.
What I am looking for now in my collection is Disc that the stamp is unique and cool.

I don’t know if I qualify, but I throw alot of collector discs. I use a 2003 USDGC Glo Battle Roc. I also use a first run bar stamp Destroyer and a first run black champion excalliber. I am looking to get a CE Valkyrie to toss next. Some of these were gifts, so it was easier to take them out of the plastic and throw them.

I would say that I collect discs then donate them to lucky people who find them when I loose them. lol. I don’t collect anything in particular just like to buy plastic. I don’t believe in owning something and not using it. I’ve got a first run firebird that I use on occasion that people have told me I’m nuts for doing. I just don’t understand why to own it and not enjoy using it.

Now im not really into collector discs. I see a 100 dollar disc and my small brain says hmmmm i wonder how it fly’s. Now im not ther brightest star in the sky, nor the sharpest knife in the drawer but i imagine as soon as its thrown the price goes downso if i bought a $100 dollar disc and i just threw it i need to get kicked in the head.
However I do collect autographed discs, And just discs i think are cool or have some kind of meaning to me. The wall has a few discs but also has some awards.

I like to collect anything that pass’s my way that “speaks” to me. I mainly have a Discraft collection filled with First run buzzzz’s, super color’s, and proto-types. What makes them special to me is mainly whare I was when I got them. Some I got while on vacation, some as payouts in tourney’s. Some I got on a whim ’cause I thought they were cool and they turned out to be a “must have” sorta thing.
Often I would be playing/warming up and people would checkout what I was throwing and offer to buy or trade me for it. I knew well enough that if a stranger wanted my disc then I should quit throwing it and retire it to the box. and thats how and why I collect. plus, I mean come on.. I still have my basball cards and comics. collecting is what guys do…

my collection now is housed in about 3 or 4 plastic tubs, all in bags. i dont go out and spend all my grocery money on pieces of plastic, but i do find the opportunity to add a disc or two, now and again. i play am and have only played tournaments for a year and a half. i have what i need and know what i like, therefore when i get something new i dont just go out and throw it. i take it, put it in a box and trade/sell it for what i want. this affords me the ability to trade lots of discs i dont want, for a few discs that i want to collect.
around here, the ams are fortunate enough to have a pick your own payout. this is another opportunity that sometimes affords me to get something nice. yea, they are priced high, and take most of my payout, but i dont need anything else, so you will usually find me routing through the ‘collectibles bin’.
this means that my collection consists of more discraft first runs and neat discs than innova and other companies, but i do have some. it just depends what people have and what they want to part with. i found a disc that belonged to a greatful owner, he gave me a dimpled ‘greatful dude’ disc in return. i do get some star stamped first runs in payouts as well, and they go right into the box.
if i had the opportunity to get something that i wanted, something new, i would probably add a usdgc roc to the collection. that is something that i dont have and would be a nice touch.
i dont play to collect, i love throwing discs and watching them fly, but if i have the opportunity to throw a 10$ disc and saev a 20$ disc, i will. i have alot to learn and 50$ plastic wont make my game better, but it will look good in my collection :).

I’m not sure I know what the definition of a “collector” is. What I do know is that I want any disc I can get my hands on. It doesn’t have to be a limited run or special stamp. It doesn’t need Steady Ed’s ashes in the plastic (although I’d love one, and yes, I’d throw it). It just has to fly. The way I see it, the more discs in my bag, the more options I have. I realize that I can only take so many discs out on the course at one time. But it would be nice to know that if I wanted to take nothing but putters out to work solely on that part of my game, I could.
It’s pretty clear that I don’t collect in the traditional sense. If you collect coins, you don’t spend them. If you collect stamps, you don’t use them as postage. But if you collect discs, it seems like a waste to not throw them. It doesn’t matter to me what kind of disc it is. I don’t care who makes it, as I don’t see the point in being loyal to any specific brand (unless they’re paying you, I guess). If you have a disc that you don’t want, I’ll take it.
The main reason I collect is for the best reason I can think of: to share them. I know more people who don’t know about this game than people who do. I can take someone who’s never played and introduce them to something they’re almost guaranteed to enjoy, doing my part to make disc golf an even more recognized sport. If I have hundreds of discs, then handing off a few of them to someone who has none won’t make much difference to me, as I’ll have more than I need. Besides, this game is about having fun, and who am I not to share it?
If I’m lucky enough to win, I’m not going to blow the whole gift certificate on one disc, but instead use it to buy a few of them. I see no sense in buying one disc for that much money, just so I can beat it up on the course. I could buy 5-10 discs for that much, and extend those options I spoke of earlier. It just makes sense.

i am a rookie collector. not even sure if i qualify as a collector, but i like my bag to be unique from others on the course. i love pulling a disc out of my bag and someone saying, “what is that?” i have a very small collection, most of which i carry and throw. first run star stamps, cryztal z, limited runs, etc. my favorite discs are my jk pro valk, se valk and leopard(and i just bought an se tl), worlds 08 buzzz ss, flx drone, first run boss, eco star groove, tulsa orc, omega supersoft putter. yea. i would love to add some ce plastic one day. looking for a firebird currently. seeing as how the gift certificate is for collectors’ discs only, i might find some ce plastic if i win!

I have only been playing since December 2008, but I do have a nice collection. I like Innova First runs, new Innovas, and Dicraft FLX myself to collect and hold onto. I even have a RIPPA!!!!

I collect discs because I am new to the game and it is a good way to try “rare” discs and get an idea of what I like and dislike.
I have 25 discs of all diffrent brands and plastics. It is an okay collection, not big, but a lot of differential in my bag!
I live in Atlanta, GA and am going to start to collect local tourney CFR discs!!

I just love tie die discs. when discs start showing heavy wear or I start turning the darn thing over I replace them. Oh I have this thing for super color discs. love them. new products out on the market sure give that a shot have to try to keep up with technology . I am throwing a combination of three co.’s innova, discraft, gateway.

I’ve been playing disc golf for a little over a year now…still very ‘newb’, but enjoying every moment of it! I spent the last 13 years of my life working the ‘ball golf’ biz as a club/teaching professional. Unfortunately, lost my job in the politics that occur many times with boards and ‘country clubbers’, only to find this great twist on two things I love…golf and frisbee(disc)! I’ve only had the golf clubs out three times in the last three years…but I’m a proud disc golf ‘weekend warrior’ through all four seasons here in eastern Pennsylvania!
Long story short…. I’m hooked on this great game. I can’t wait to get more involved locally and watch it blossom into the wonderful piece of sport/recreation it is. I only wish I learned about it earlier, but you can’t go back. I’m taking in as much as possible, looking to become a certified rules official next! I directed many ball golf events and can’t wait to get back in similar roles in disc golf. During this short time playing the game, I’ve seemed to pick up an affection for collecting discs, both to throw and to hang on to. I am simply hoping that the ‘closet stash’ can be handed-down one day to someone who will appreciate it as much as I do. I’ve become a fan of CFRs, First Runs, Tourney/Club Stamps, Rocs and just plain plastic in general! I’m at just under 200 discs in less than two years…quite a few of which have come via Clearwater (Thanks guys!). Don’t get me wrong…I’m not in it to amass a number or value of collection to talk about, but hoping it will be a conversation piece for friends when the game gets to the good place it belongs!

Wow, this is great reading guys…very interesting to read about the different motivating factors for collecting. I like how opinions range from “I throw nothing but collectors” to “I would never throw a collector.”
For a little insight, I must say that it is hard for me to break out a limited edition or one-of-a-kind disc and start whacking it on trees. I know that, at that moment, that disc will cease to exist in its current, pristine form. For the record, when I 1st started, I`d write my name on every disc whether it was a collector or not, because my sole intention was to throw it. After a while I realized that writing on a disc was like putting graffiti on an historical artifact. Of course I didn`t even know what a collector disc was when I first started. As it turns out now, everything i my bag was a collector.

Now, when I play with newbies, I frequently hear “you own the greatest disc golf store in the world, but you play with the shabbiest discs I`ve ever seen.” And their puzzled look tells me they would like to know “WHY?” The answer is:
With all the new technology out there, especially when it comes to high-speed, high-tech drivers, old school discs can easily be overlooked, and I find that they often are. In fact, most of our local courses are not long enough to handle the increased speed and distances that the new drivers produce. And, of course, the higher the speed of the disc, the more likely it will really take off a long ways for you - in the WRONG direction! This is not to say that I don`t love the new technology…I really do love the new ultra long range drivers. But when it comes to making birdies and shooting under par and winning rounds of disc golf, nothing tackles the job like my old school “control” discs. I figure that`s why they still make them. When they made “wood” distance drivers for ball golf, they didn`t stop making #7, 8, and 9 irons.
Pretty discs are for collecting. Old school workhorses are for making money on the course!

I collect discs because I love the sport and the great prints and different molds. “Rare” finds always get my heart pumpin!! I have been playing for about 2 years and I was given a few nice discs by my discin buddies and have been collecting ever since. I am over 100 now and I have lots of old-school 90’s and early 00’s. My discs are mostly Innova and Millenium, with a few Discraft. I like to find the newer proto’s and anything out of the ordinary.

I collect backups of my favorite discs to throw. I try to hoard any and all CE Firebirds and TLs they are my go-to discs. I also collect specific discs that have a meaning to me. The biggest thing i can say about the discs i collect are….they are to be thrown….and only shown until thrown. There is no need to have a boatload of discs hanging on the wall knowing they aren’t going to be thrown. I have maybe 20 or so discs I wont throw, as they are purely ‘pretty’ discs…some autographics, kewl tournament stamps, etc.

At first there back ups to what I’m throwing(I like to have at least 5 of every driver that works for me).Over time they change molds or stop running my players,so then there collecter discs.they are like a bank account.Personally I only collect discs I would throw. my current inventory is between 250-300.Aviars,Omegas,Rhynos,X.D.s,Cobras.etc.Its all Innova!
